Despite economic uncertainties, rising costs and increasingly intense competition, the Geis Group stayed on course in the 2024 financial year - and further consolidated its position in the market, and not just through company acquisitions. With a turnover of 1.95 billion euros, the family-owned company recorded an increase of 3.2 percent compared to the previous year. The Slovak part of the group even achieved year-on-year turnover growth of 10.8%.
"The second half of the year in particular was characterized by a weak economy, rising personnel and transport costs, ever-increasing regulatory requirements and falling shipment volumes," explain Managing Partners Hans-Wolfgang Geis and Jochen Geis. "Nevertheless, we have held our ground - thanks to the great commitment of our employees. As a family business, we are continuing to invest consistently in the future."
In Slovakia, the Geis Group confirmed its strong position among the leaders in the logistics market and achieved a turnover of almost €92.5 million, representing an increase of 10.8% compared to 2023.
A new corporate strategy was developed and introduced in 2024 for the entire group of companies, including the subsidiary Quehenberger Logistics, which has been majority-owned by Geis since 2023. It defines clear focus areas and promotes stronger international integration of all companies. The clear goal: a leading position in Central and Eastern Europe.
The Geis Group grew across all key segments in 2024.
In road transport, it achieved a turnover of EUR 1.28 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 3.1%. This result was driven by positive developments in Central and Eastern Europe in particular and the impact of toll effects. Further expansion was also supported by acquisitions that strengthened the company's market position.
The logistics services segment benefited from systematic process improvements in recent years. Turnover rose to EUR 408 million (+2.0%). The Geis Group currently operates approximately 1.4 million m² of logistics space across Europe and continues to invest in land for future customer projects.
The company also made significant progress in the air and sea sector. After a decline in rates in the post-coronavirus period, the Air + Sea segment stabilized in 2024 and achieved a turnover of EUR 188 million, 9.0% more than in the previous year. Geis is focusing on tailor-made solutions and specialized projects in this area.
The Geis Group is aiming for climate neutrality by 2040 and is taking concrete steps to achieve this. In 2024, it opened its first eco-friendly terminal in Ebersdorf with photovoltaics, a green roof, and a hybrid timber construction. Solar installations have also been added in Bad Neustadt, and another is currently being built in Nuremberg.
Geis is also progressive in the field of alternative fuels – it has secured six million liters of HVO100 for its own filling stations and is one of the first companies to allow customers to offset CO₂ savings thanks to HVO using the "Book and Claim" method.
The economy remains tense - but the Geis Group is prepared. Technology, employee satisfaction and sustainability will continue to form the foundation for further growth in 2025. The integration of the acquired companies is underway, and the two managing partners are not ruling out further acquisitions. "We are proud of what we have achieved in the past year – and we are optimistic about the future," conclude Hans-Wolfgang and Jochen Geis.
