Logistics – it all starts in school

How Geis supports future professionals in Slovakia.

Young people today face a multitude of options, and it’s not easy to choose the right path. That’s why we at Geis believe it’s important for them to gain practical experience as early as possible. Not just after school, but while they’re still in school. In Slovakia, we’ve been working with elementary, secondary, and higher education institutions for a long time, helping students understand how logistics works in the real world.

First Steps: When Logistics Becomes an Experience

We open the doors to our facilities even to elementary school students. During these tours, they can see firsthand how planning, sorting, coordination, and teamwork take place. For many, this is their first encounter with an environment they had previously associated only with trucks and warehouses. This makes it all the more surprising to discover the important role that technology, logic, and teamwork play here.

We also support technical and IT education. A great example is our collaboration with Základná škola M. Rázusa in Zvolen, where students in an IT club built the robotic delivery robot RADO. They also succeeded in competitions with this project and gained valuable experience that goes far beyond regular classroom instruction.

At our company, children can try out various job roles and discover that each one has its own importance. This is another way we help them understand why it’s worth learning, growing, and thinking about what they want to do in the future.

High School Students: Experiences That Shape the Future

We work very actively with secondary schools. We offer students site visits, professional work placements, internships, and joint projects. We have long-term partnerships, for example, with SOŠ informačných technológií in Banská Bystrica, Súkromná stredná odborná škola podnikania in Zvolen, and Stredná priemyselná škola dopravná in Zvolen.
The results of this cooperation are also visible in practice - today, graduates of these schools are part of our team, and many of them have been working with us for many years.

We are also happy to welcome students from abroad into our environment. As part of the Erasmus+ programme, students from the Czech Republic complete professional work placements with us, for example from Obchodní akademie a Střední škola logistická in Opava.

However, cooperation with schools is not only about developing professional skills. Joint activities often also have a charitable dimension. In cooperation with students, we have repeatedly supported the organisation Úsmev ako dar, which helps vulnerable families in Slovakia. It is precisely these projects that foster empathy, responsibility, and the ability to think of others in young people.

Geis is also involved in nationwide student competitions, such as Skills Slovakia – ZENIT 2026, and regularly participates in secondary school open days. During these events, we introduce Geis as an employer to prospective students and, through games and competitions, present the world of logistics to them in a fun and engaging way.

Universities: Where Theory Meets Reality

Even university students find opportunities for growth here. Our experts and managers lecture at universities, share their practical experience, and assist students with their research papers and theses.

This allows students to better connect theoretical knowledge with how a company actually operates. Many of them subsequently decide to continue this collaboration after graduation, and we thus gain a new generation of logistics talent who bring fresh ideas and new perspectives to the company.

Why do we do this?

Because we believe that responsible business also means investing in the future. In the people who will drive logistics forward - professionally, technologically, and on a human level.
